PANJIM: Many young and first-time voters who turned up to cast their vote on Monday for the Goa Assembly Elections, said that they have voted for candidates who are qualified, non-corrupt and who will fulfill the promises given in the election manifesto.
Although the election day coincided with the Valentine’s Day, most of the youngsters said exercising their franchise was their priority and celebrating Valentine’s Day came second on their list.

Arya Naik, a new voter from Panjim Constituency, said, “No one sticks to the assurances given to voters therefore I don’t really trust any of the candidates. Finally, all are the same and no one remains grateful once in the power”.
Stating further Arya said, “The candidate should have good leadership qualities, a clear vision towards the development of the constituency and its people. None of the candidates in fray seems to be eligible and fitting into my list of an eligible candidate to be voted for. I have voted for someone who is at least better than the others.”
Krishna Prabhat, a young voter of Socorro-Porvorim, said that she voted for the candidate she felt eligible to undertake overall development of the constituency.
“According to me, a good leader is the one who develops the constituency in educational sector and the one who believes in women empowerment. The one who is inclined more towards the technical development is voted for,” said Prabhat.
Shweta Narvekar, a new voter of Taleigao Constituency, sounded dissatisfied when she said, “Not just me but every Goan must have analysed the politics of Goa. Since last five years the ruling party has been involved in many illegal activities.”
”Though it is a known fact that none of the candidates keeps their word once elected, I still decided to vote based on the assurances the candidates have mentioned in their manifesto,” Narvekar added.
Vidhi Jadega from Porvorim said, “I have voted for the one who will not deviate from his promises and who will be able to fulfill his assurances. I have cast my vote based on the leadership quality, educational qualification and honesty of the candidate.”
The State Election Office said it had enrolled 29,479 first-time voters for the Assembly elections 2022.
