Bicholim: The local farmers of Nhaveli, Sankhali and the panchayat along with Sesa Vedanta company have decided to revive the 20 hectares of barren agricultural land at Nhaveli, Sankhali belonging to Saasthacho Aakh Shetkari Sanghatana.
The inauguration of removing the sludge from the barren land was done by sarpanch Kalidas Gawas. The agricultural land was left unattended for years which eventually turned it barren. However, the farmers in a bid to resume the green revolution at the local level have decided to cultivate crops here under Atma Nirbhar and Swayampurna Goa scheme. Sesa Vedanta will be helping the cause under CSR.

Along with sarpanch Gawas, Damodar Gawas, president of Saasthacho Aakh Shetkari Sanghatana, Vishwambhar Gawas, chairman of Bicholim Progressive Farmers Company, Milind Barve, manager of Sesa Vedanta, president of communidade Neeraj Gawas and treasurer Shailesh Gawas were also present during the sludge removal work.
Meanwhile, the CM Pramod Sawant has praised the efforts of the farmers of Nhaveli who are bringing more and more barren lands under cultivation in Nhaveli panchayat area.
“Many such barren lands have been brought under cultivation in the village. Panchayat will fully cooperate with the farmers who are keen on reviving such lands,” said sarpanch Gawas.
