MARGAO: Asserting that the BJP is part and parcel of the RSS, member of the All India Secular Forum Ram Puniyani on Tuesday said that the RSS and its organisations such as the Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal and others are out to divide the country on communal lines.
Puniyani was in Goa to attend the rally “United for Democracy” at the Lohia Maidan, Margao, on Tuesday evening convened by the Goa unit of the Popular Front of India. “Prime Minister Narendra Modi had himself said that he is a Hindu nationalist. After the BJP returned to power, we have seen how ministers and BJP leaders have started polarising the society on communal lines,” he said.
Puniyani further said that the Modi government is pursuing destructive policies for the benefit of the corporate at the cost of the common man. “The BJP government has buried the amendments in the Land Acquisition Act”, he said.
Replying to a question of the Common Civil code in the country, Puniyani said he is against Uniform Civil Code which is put in place by borrowing certain points from the codes of various religious groups. “We want a Common Civil code which seeks to give woman equal rights. If the Common Civil code in Goa treats women on par with men, then it should be certainly welcomed,” he added.
At the programme, it was pointed out that the Prime Minister is marching on the road to pursue fascist dictatorship. “Corruption is rampant. Politicians and corporate nexus is looting the country’s resources. Minorities, adivasis and the poor are being sidelined”, a pamphlet distributed at the meeting stated.
