A village-level meeting was held in Keri on Wednesday evening. Mandrem MLA Jit Arolkar along with the nine village panchayats of Mandrem constituency has taken aggressive stance to campaign demanding scrapping of the controversial zoning plan.
“In order to make the people aware of this zoning plan, we have started public awareness meetings about the zoning plan where we will go to every village to take the villagers into confidence.
Addressing a meeting at Keri, Arolkarsaid, “Zoning plan is a curse for Pernem taluka. If this zoning plan is not cancelled completely, we will have to go through a lot of trouble while the next generation will have no rights and no land for development. Outsiders will take over everything if we don’t fight now unitedly,” he told the crowd.
Former Keri sarpanch Tatoba Talkar said, “Even though the Regional Plan 2021 is in abeyance, it is still considered while issuing permissions for projects. Using the word abeyance is like postponing the death for tomorrow. TCP Minister has used the word abeyance only to pacify the people but as time passes on, this plan will again be brought to life and imposed on the people,” Talkar said.
“Today we are crying for proper water and electricity but if the zoning plan is implemented, people will have nowhere to go,” Keri sarpanch Dharti Nagoji said demanding immediate denotification of the plan.
The protest against the Pernem zoning plan is mounting up as people are taking to the streets and joining hands with fellow residents in their relentless protests to get the controversial plan denotified as per the TCP Act and not to keep it in abeyance.
