PANJIM: Anti-Corruption branch (ACB) sleuths arrested a draftsman of the Town and Country Planning (TCP) department for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 3,000 from a Canacona resident for land conversion.
The draftsman Grade I Suresh Parab, attached to the office of the deputy town planner Canacona had earlier accepted Rs 5,000 from complainant Sandesh Telekar.
According to the complaint, Parab had applied for conversion of land in Chawdi, Canacona. “As a procedure, the file was forwarded to TCP for inspection. The draftsman was given the task to do so, and he had subsequently prepared the report. But he kept it pending for NOC,” an officer said.
Even after accepting Rs 5,000 from Telekar, he demanded more, which is when the complainant approached ACB for help, the officer added.
“Parab held back the report to demand money from him (Telekar). On October 30, he accepted Rs 5,000, but demanded more, which is when the complainant approached ACB for help,” the officer added.
