PANJIM: Directorate of Civil Supplies struck down the illegal use of domestic LPG cylinder by the canteen contractor of Directorate of Education Porvorim and cancelled the connection of the contractor based on a complaint filed by Roland Martins of the Goa Consumer Action Network (GOACAN).
Speaking to Herald, Roland Martins said that it was important that the government gets its own house in order before it cracks down on illegal use of cylinders.
“We found that the contractor was using a domestic cylinder for commercial premises (canteen of the education department). We took up the matter is the civil supplies (department) and Bharat gas. We got them to disconnect the LPG connection and instead take a commercial cylinder today itself,” Martins said.
“What we’re saying is that the government should lead from the front, if they are asking people to live with only six cylinders a year and fill KYC forms to make sure they don’t have double connections,” Martins said.
Martins said that he has urged the minister to ensure that no commercial establishments use subsidized domestic cylinders, but that the government has been moving slowly on the issue.
