PANJIM: Panjim police on Friday arrested Laiq Motiwala a resident of St Inez, one of the four persons accused of allegedly assaulting one Dadapir Ismail (20) a resident of Betim, on Thursday.
Panjim Police said that at around 8.30 pm on Thursday Motiwala, Ronney D’Souza, Semuel and one Juez and others formed an unlawful assembly with deadly weapons like choppers, near Tambdi-Mati, St Inez. Later one of the accused, an occupant of a white-coloured car, assaulted Dadapir with the chopper causing grievous injuries to his chest, right hand and stomach, in an attempt to kill him, police said.
Police arrested Motiwala under Section 307, 143, 147, 148, 326, read with Section 149 of Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Motiwala has been remanded to three days police custody by JMFC, Panjim.
Meanwhile, police have seized the assault weapon and the vehicle. Police Sub Inspector Kishor Ramanan is investigating the case.
