PANJIM: Stating that it would be mandatory for the bidder of the Greenfield International Airport at Mopa to provide employment training facilities to locals, Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar on Monday announced that the successful bidder for the project would be finalised within 90 days.
“Our prime condition to the successful bidder would be to provide training facility to the locals. For the time being, space would be made available at Pernem ITI,” Parsekar said, adding that government is willing to provide land in the nearby areas for setting up the training centres.
The State government last week issued a Request for Proposal (RFP) for Mopa airport to four shortlisted companies, with the last date for receiving applications being April 15.
“We have already issued RFP and the successful bidder would be finalised within 90 days,” Chief Minister said.
The RFP has been issued to – GVK, GMR, Essel Infra-Mumbai and Voluptas Developers. The latter two companies have tied up with foreign partners – Essel Infra with Zurich Airports and Voluptas Developers with Vinci Airports, Rome.
The airport – which is being constructed on a public-private-partnership – will be developed in four phases. Phase I is expected to be completed by 2019 and will cater to 4.4 million passengers, while Phase II is likely to be ready by 2025 and will handle 5.8 million passengers.
An area of 81,29,455 sq metres has been acquired for the airport project in Pernem taluka.
