SATTARI: Twenty-five nominations have been filed for the elections to the Board of Directors (BoD) of the Sattari Taluka Farmers’ Service Cooperative Society Limited scheduled on May 16.
Farmers have threatened not to cast their votes as they claimed the society is not beneficial to them. They have demanded that Cooperation Minister take action against the Society.

The scrutiny of nominations forms was held on Wednesday.
Government servants and other professionals are contesting the elections.
Nearly 8,000 farmers are registered with this society.
According to the farmers, the Society is not beneficial to the taluka farmers, since its establishment as there is no farmers’ committee.
The society was formed for the farmers, but the BoD has failed to address the farmers’ grievances and the society is not purchasing the farmers’ agricultural produce, they claimed and alleged that they have are not taken into confidence as the BoD takes the final decision with regards to society matters.
The farmers claim that they have been totally neglected and have threatened not to vote at the BoD elections.
The Society members demanded that the Cooperation Department postpone the BoD election due to the spurt in COVID cases in Sattari taluka.
“Two days ago, we submitted a memorandum to the Assistant Registrar and Assistant Election Officer, Cooperative Society- Bicholim Zone, Sanquelim to postpone the BoD election due to the rapid increase in COVID cases in Sattari. We hope that the Assistant Registrar will postpone the election,” said former director Ganpat Gaonkar.
