VASCO: The Sancoale Panchayat authorities under police protection on Friday removed and seized seven illegal gaddas that were operating illegally near the bus stops at Birla-Zuarinagar.
The action was initiated following complaints from locals and concerned citizens about mushrooming of gaddas in Zuarinagar slum area. The citizens had also complained that some illegal gaddas were seen placed beside as well as in front of the bus stops thereby blocking the bus stops from public use and disrupting smooth flow of traffic in the area.
Thus, acting on the complaint, Sancoale Panchayat authorities first issued notice to these gadda operators asking them to remove their gaddas within seven days time. However, since the gadda operators failed to comply with the directions issued by the panchayat, action was initiated against the illegal gaddas under police protection. In all seven gaddas selling vegetables and other fast food items were removed and seized on Friday.
“As assured to the villagers, today we have initiated action against illegal gaddas in Zuarinagar slum area and our drive against such illegal gaddas in other areas under panchayat jurisdiction will continue even in future. After removing these gaddas, we have tried to make public bus stops encroachment free as these gaddas were discouraging public from using these bus stops,” said Sancoale Sarpanch Girish Pillai.
