PONDA: Shop owners have urged the Ponda Municipal Council (PMC) to exclude areas in front of their shops from being made into pay parking zones.
However, they clarified that they are not opposed to pay parking concept, but it should not be in front of their shops. They submitted a memorandum to the PMC, to this effect.

The shopkeepers who are members of People Of Ponda (POP) submitted the memorandum to PMC Chairperson Ritesh Naik Thursday day, under the banner of POP.
It may be recalled that PMC has taken a decision to introduce pay parking from January 30 this year and the proposal was forwarded to the collector’s office for implementation.
In its memorandum, shopkeepers said they strongly object to making the area in front of their shops as pay parking areas for shopkeepers’ vehicles. It is also not acceptable to make the area pay parking for customers who park their vehicles for just a couple of minutes to buy commodities from their shops. It will affect their businesses badly, they said. Many buildings, which are constructed in the past by obtaining valid construction licenses from SGPDA and PMC, have parking for their vehicles.
Hence, they urged the PMC, not to go ahead with pay parking, without having discussions with their organisation.
