TIVIM: Three youth from Sindhudurg-Maharashtra were killed while one was seriously hurt when two motorcycles collided with each other at Malpem-Pernem on Saturday morning.
The deceased have been identified as two brothers, Rohan and Rahul Puranik from Sawantwadi and Sunil Patil of Kudal.
According to police, the mishap took place at 8.10 am, when two speeding motorbikes collided with each other.
While Rohan and Rahul were proceeding to work at the Karaswado Industrial Estate, Sunil Patil and his friend, Vijay Gudi, were proceeding from their work place at Verem to their home for holidays.
The pillion rider, Rahul Puranik, was flung on the road and was crushed to death by a truck laden with domestic gas cylinders that was proceeding from Mapusa to Pernem. Rohan Puranik and Sunil Patil also died on the spot, police said.
The other pillion rider, Vijay Gudi, was rushed to the GMC hospital and he is reported to be out of danger. The police are waiting to record his statement which is crucial in this case.
The bodies were handed over to the respective families after an autopsy.
