MARGAO: Curtains came down on SARAS Fair 2014 at the SGPDA grounds on Thursday, with the 12-day event registering highest turnover of Rs 83 lakh by way of sale of handicrafts and goods produced by artisans and self-help groups from all over the country.
Overwhelmed by the success of the fair, an elated RDA Minister Avertano Furtado announced that SARAS 2015 will also be held on the same grounds, while thanking the people of South Goa for patronising the fair. “The basic objective behind organising SARAS was to bring under one roof artisans and offer them marketing avenues. I can say the fair was a big success with the highest turnover recorded this year”, he said.
Chief Secretary B Vijayan also complimented the artisans for putting up their produce for exhibition and sale. He reminded the artisans and self-help groups of the Goa government’s initiative to promote their produce and make the activity sustainable.
Velim MLA Benjamin D’Silva also spoke. South Goa Zilla Chairperson Nelly Rodrigues, RDA Project Director B Kankar Velip, A Redkar and other officials were also present at the closing ceremony.
