Aleixo seeks support for one more inning

Notwithstanding claims by Tourism Minister Mickky Pacheco having made deep inroads in Loutolim constituency, local MLA and Power Minister Aleixo Sequeira isn’t going to run away from the constituency which have re-elected him four time in a row.
On the contrary, Aleixo has gone to the public seeking support from his constituents for his candidature in the next Assembly polls.
In fact, the Power Minister used the occasion of his birthday on Saturday to make a humble request to the constituents of Loutolim constituency to give him one more chance to represent them in the Goa Legislative Assembly.
“You have always stood behind me during the last four elections. Now, I am planning to contest the polls once again. Your MLA requires your support like in the past. Give me one more chance to represent you in the Assembly for which I will be grateful to you”, Sequeira made a humble request to his constituents at a function held at Loutolim to commission the underground cabling project.
Sequeira’s request seeking support for his candidature assumes significance given that his bete noire and Tourism Minister, Mickky Pacheco has made a determined bid to set his foot in the new constituency of Nuvem, carved out of the villages of Loutolim, Verna, Nuvem, Betalbatim and Majorda.
Incidentally, the Power Minister announced a host of schemes for the constituents of Loutolim on his birthday. And, Aleixo asserted that is going ahead with the controversial 20-point housing scheme – which was opposed by some sections of villages on grounds it would bring in hordes of migrants in the village on the eve the last Assembly polls. “I did not recommend my candidates for the plots. The beneficiaries were shortlisted by the Parish Priest and Sisters so that the most deserving received the plots”, he said, and made it categorically clear that he would allot the plots to the beneficiaries. “I have undergone hardships to prepare the plots. I have fought for the plots in the High Court and the Supreme Court and won. If you are ready, the plots will be given to you”, he said.
Saying that he is in the process of completing conversion formalities, Aleixo said to a thunderous applause that he would come back and distribute the sanads to the beneficiaries before the month June.
The Power Minister also extended an olive branch to his detractors, calling upon the people to work together to make Loutolim one of the best villages in the scheme.
