CANACONA: Canacona fire and emergency personnel were on their toes as a residential house caught fire and trees got uprooted at three different places in the Taluka.
As per information released by Fire and Emergency office of Canacona, a two-storey residential building at Sristhal caught fire early Sunday morning. Three trees got uprooted disrupting power supply and smooth flow of traffic in the locality.
Sources at the emergency office said the fire which broke out on the first floor gutted all the wooden furniture like bed, cup-boards, dining table and electric gadgets like geyser, washing machine etc. The fire also damaged the false ceiling, electric wiring, fixtures and the clothes of the family members. The loss in the incident is estimated at over Rs 5 lakh. Timely intervention by the fire personnel led by fire fighter Ulhas Gaonkar and assisted by fire fighters Prashant Velip, Goutam Velip, Ganesh Naik and Lekhak Daikar saved the fire from spreading to other parts of the house. It is believed that a short circuit caused the fire but the fire personnel have reserved their opinion pending on the cause of fire they said.
The fire personnel were kept busy during the entire day as trees got uprooted due to strong winds of 15 kph at three different places in the Taluka. All the trees fell on electric overhead wires by the road sides disrupting power supply and smooth flow of traffic in the locality.
