MARGAO: The fact that Saddam Sayed, one of the four kidnappers of four school girls, lived in an illegal house at Raia has infuriated the villagers, who have demanded immediate demolition of all the illegal houses in the village.
The 23-year-old Sayed was arrested by the Fatorda Police from Zuarinagar area on Friday. It has now come to light that he was residing in one of the illegal houses in the village.
Angered that Sayed has brought bad name to the village, the villagers have demanded that the panchayat immediately demolish the illegal houses in Raia.
Locals say that they have been demanding demolition of the illegal houses in the village as they have been causing a lot of nuisance in the locality. However since the panchayat is allegedly hand in glove with the people who have constructed the illegal houses, it has not demolished the structures. The villagers claim that his has led to criminal elements settling down in the village.
Anthony Fernandes, who has been at the forefront demanding the demolition of the illegal houses, said, “For two years we have been knocking the doors of all the authorities for demolishing the illegal houses, but no one has taken any action. The result of inaction is that criminals are flourishing in the peaceful panchayat.”
