UTORDA: Parish Youth Nuvem emerged champions of the 24th Lourdes football trophy, defeating Betalbatim Sports Club 3-2 via tie-breaker, organised by United Club of Utorda in association with Sports Authority of Goa, at Utorda ground recently.
Both teams started the game with a promising note.
However, Betalbatim SC had the first real chance of the match in the 10th minute but Travis Barreto shot wide from the goal mouth. Stephen Colaco gave PY Nuvem the lead in the 20th minute with a neat placement thus making amends for his earlier easy miss in the 15th minute. The goal boosted Nuvem team as they dominated the first half.
Post resumption, Betalbatim came back stronger but failed to convert their chances. However, the Betalbatim side scored the leveller in the 60th minute from the penalty spot through Austin.
In the tie breaker, PY Nuvem proved to be better shooters.
The winners were awarded Rs 40,000 while the runners-up pocketed Rs 30,000.
Nuvem MLA Micky Pacheco was the chief guest for the final and gave away the prizes to the winners and runners-up in the presence of guest of honour Fr Santo Antonio Pereira, DSYA and SAG executive director VM Prabhudesai and other dignitaries.
