It is not uncommon to find dead bodies being shunted from Margao to the Goa Medical College and Hospitals, Bambolim mortuary for want of space. While the 30 slot new unit at the T B Hospital has augmented the mortuary space, the existing morgue at Hospicio, however, has failed yet again, restricting the capacity to just six bodies.
Information revealed that the total capacity of the Hospicio morgue is 18 slots. However, the number of slots in working conditions is put at only six, with 12 slots lying in non working condition.
Though the government has received correspondence from the Hospicio management for repairs of the 18 slot mortuary unit, the Health Department has made it clear that it does not intend to repair the non-working slots.
