The police are believed to have attached documentary proof to prove that the structure, which has been used as a scrap yard-cum-workshop to offer namaz. The report forwarded to the District Magistrate has referred to the police panchanama which suggested the presence of items that the structure was used as place of worship.
The controversial structure had kicked up a row of sorts on Saturday last after agitated Sao Jose de Areal villagers stopped construction activity in the premises. Curtorim MLA Reginaldo Lourenco and local Sarpanch Martha Cardozo maintained that the activity was totally illegal and was being carried out by the occupant when the matter is pending before the Additional Panchayat Director.
The police decision to forward a report to the District Magistrate is seen as a move to throw the ball in the court of the district authorities to crack a whip against the structure in question.
Police officials say it is now for the district authorities as well as the local Panchayat body to initiate action against the structure as per law.
