St Xavier College Mapusa won the inaugural match by defeating MES College, Zuarinagar 52-12.
Shawn Soares top scored for St Xavier with 15 points and was ably supported by Dekence Gavali (13 points) and Tristan Braganza (12 points). Sharad Halgi gave a good account of himself and contributed seven points for the Zuarinagar team.
In the second match, Goa Engineering College, Farmagudi defeated SS Dempo College of Commerce and Economics, Altinho, 18-13. Libin with eight points top-scored for GEC.
Don Bosco College of Engineering, Fatorda defeated VM Salgaocar College of Law, Miramar 38-37 in a cliff-hanger, in the third match. Aaron with twelve points and Sohail Naroo with 10 points top-scored for Don Bosco and Peter Fernandes contributed 10 points for VM Salgaocar Law College.
The tournament was declared open by Goa University Sports Director Milton Fernandes in the presence of Fr Savio Gomes, Rector of Don Bosco Panjim; Fr Ralin de Souza, President of Goa Basketball Association (GBA) and Girish Lotliker, who is co-ordinating the tournament for the GBA.
