MARGAO: The People’s Festival of the Amche Mollem citizen group at Garcia d’Orta in Panjim, which is part of the Serendipity Arts Festival, culminated with a diversity of celebrations on Sunday. Several people from across Goa participated at the event that had the theme ‘A Future Full of Forests’ and was centred around science, music and citizenship.
The two-day event was part of the Case of the Missing Species, an interactive art installation, which brought to light the key species that were excluded from the Environment Impact Assessments (EIAs) given for the three proposed destructive infrastructure projects in Goa that threatens Goa’s rich biodiversity and natural habitats for wildlife.

Several people visited the interactive art installation including Goa’s famous musician Remo Fernandes and Bollywood composer Joe D’Costa.
The youngest participant at The People’s Festival was Rianne Fernandes from Pomburpa who talked about her love for soil and her experiments as a regenerative farmer and she expressed concern about how many micro-organisms would be lost if the Mollem National Park is destroyed.
There was a mini-tree walk conducted by Dr Maryanne Lobo, a tree expert who took participants on what she called a tree odyssey, while the Chicalim Youth Farmers Club also did a flash mob and taught other participants dance steps and asked for a return to our love for nature.
