Junior Herald is conducting the Summer Football Camp 2018 in association with for
children in different parts of Goa. After successfully conducting camps in
Seraulim, Assolna and Arambol, the camp will be held next at Marcel on June 2,
2018 from 4.30pm to 6.30pm. The camp was open to girls and boys. The camp is
conducted by AIFF certified coaches, Worrel D’Souza and Shane Anthony Temudo.
The children also had the opportunity to meet ISL footballers like Keenan
Almeida, Brandon Fernandes, Laxmikant Kattimani, Ali Mohammed, Pratesh
Shirodkar and Denzil Franco. The camp aimed at teaching the basics of the game
for the children in the age group of 7-12 years.
The first camp was held at Seraulim where over 70 children
attended the camp. “This camp is a good benchmark to develop grassroots level
football in the state. I have seen brilliant talent in them and they have the
basics of the game in mind. They love wearing the jerseys with the names of Ronaldo
and Sunil Chetri which shows their passion for football. Football is a blooming
industry and it might be love for their role models that show in it too.
Education and sports like football should go together. Junior Herald should
continue with these camps,” said Shane A Temudo, one of the coaches who gave
training to the kids.

“Junior Herald should carry on all over Goa with such camps and
I suggest them conducting extensive coaching camps too. This is a good
opportunity for the children and they had the best time for this camp”, said
Worrel D’Souza, another coach for the children. FC Goa’s Laxmikant Kattimani
said that these kind of camps are good for the kids and they can learn at this
stage. “Kids also feel happy and Junior Herald has done a great job and I
request them to keep doing this every year”, he said. Castano Rodrigues, one of
the parents at the Serualim camp said, “These camps help in building up
football at the grassroots level,” as he complimented Junior Herald”.
In
Assolna, nearly 60 children participated in the camp and they were excited to
meet two Goan footballers, Keenan Almeida and Brendon Fernandes. Brendon was of
the view that these camps should be held throughout Goa and it will be great if
they are conducted every year while Keenan appreciated Junior Herald for
organising the camp. “Even parents are taking interest in football which is a
good sign as children feel more are motivated. Education and sports should go
hand in hand,” said Keenan.
