It was the initiative between two NGOs, thousands of miles away from each other that led to the cracking of alleged sex racket at a Porvorim beauty parlour on October 9.
This has been mentioned in the report submitted by the Goa Women police to the Goa State Commission for Women (GSCW).
The one-page report has given a chronology of the events before and after the raid at ‘Lotus’ beauty parlour. The police team had rescued 11 north eastern girls and lodged them at Merces Protective Home.
The raid also resulted in the arrest of five male employees and the lady parlour owner Mahalaxmi Mishra for human trafficking and pushing the girls in the flesh trade. They were recently bailed out by Children’s Court.
“We have submitted the report to the GSCW in wake of Nagaland SCW asking for the details of the raid,” Police Inspector Ezilda D’Souza said.
Meanwhile, family members of six Nagaland victims arrived in Goa today were not the given the custody of the girls as Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) had ordered that their custody be handed over to Nagaland police.
Bardez SDM Dashrat Redkar told Herald that as per the order, the rescued victims currently lodged at Protective Home at Merces will be handed over to Nagaland police.
Nagaland police who were to arrive today reschedule their arrival for Thursday morning, due to unavoidable circumstances.
“The team has reached Mumbai today. They will land Goa tomorrow after which we will complete the formalities,” he said.
Four Mizoram girls were already released on Tuesday morning.
