Goa bids emotional adeus to tall leader, Francisco Monte Cruz

MARGAO: Former Sports Minister Francisco Monte Cruz was laid to rest at the Holy Spirit Church cemetery on Thursday. The funeral Mass was led by Fr Rosario Oliveira, Parish Priest of St Catherine of Alexandria Cathedral, Old Goa, who was joined by several other concelebrants.

In his homily, Fr Rosario Oliveira described Monte Cruz as a simple, humble gentleman who remained steadfast in his faith throughout his life, even during times of illness. He emphasised Monte Cruz’s unwavering commitment to God, reflecting on his character as a person who never complained, despite his challenges. During the service, Monte Cruz’s grandchildren honoured him with a hymn. In a heartfelt vote of thanks, his granddaughter expressed her deep gratitude to those who attended the funeral and spoke fondly of her ‘Papa’.

The funeral procession began at Monte Cruz’s residence, where Fr Amandio Valadares, Parish Priest of Holy Spirit Church, Margao, and Fr Americo Rodrigues offered prayers.
