VASCO: A house belonging to Cliff Vaz was damaged while inmates including a senior citizen and children escaped unhurt when a major landslide occurred at Cortalim on Sunday around noon.
This was the second landslide occurred within few metres during the last four days.
A huge boulder rolled down from the hill and get stuck between the walls of two adjacent houses. On hearing loud sound, locals rushed to the site while, Cortalim MLA Antonio Vas, Mormugao MLA Sankalp Amonkar, fire personnel and disaster management authority team immediately rushed there on receiving the information.
Narrating the incident, Cliff Vaz said that his mother had a miraculous escape as she came to in the hall from the kitchen on hearing the sound. The children who were also at home being Sunday escaped unhurt, he said
According to Vaz, the walls of the adjoining house too developed cracks due to the impact of the boulder. He urged the authorities to take immediate measures to stop recurrence of such incidents.
Cortalim MLA Anton Vas said that landslide occurred due to incessant rains during the last few days. He said he was considering relocating the two affected families so as to ensure their safety.
Mormugao MLA Sankalp Amonkar said that issue of landslides was discussed in the Goa Assembly last week and demanded that the disaster management authority should prioritise such cases to avoid any eventuality.
