PANJIM: Goa Police has denied sharing any information with the Congress, in the wake of the party’s claim that it will win both North and South Goa constituencies, based on CID report, which they claim predicted a Congress victory.
North Goa candidate Ravi Naik had told a press conference Monday that AICC President Sonia Gandhi cancelled her visit to Goa, since she must have relied on reports about the party’s victory in both Lok Sabha seats.
Goa Pradesh Congress Committee Chief John Fernandes had also echoed a similar view claiming the latter has access to CID report as he was the former State Home Minister. “Probably he may be right. Being a former home minister he has better access to the intelligence reports,” Fernandes was quoted as saying.
The office of Chief Electoral Officer at Altinho, Panjim had soon thereafter issued a notice to the Intelligence Bureau seeking explanation on the political party’s statement.
In his reply to the office, Director Inspector General of Police (Intelligence) Brahm Singh said, “…no such information has been furnished by any CID centre staff, as alleged in the news…”
Sonia Gandhi had called off her visit to Goa, where she was supposed to address a rally at Panjim Gymkhana on April 8. Similarly, AICC Vice President Rahul Gandhi’s visit to Margao on March 29 was also cancelled since it was the time for withdrawal of nominations.
