PANJIM: Expressing concern over the plight of people affected by ban on mining operations, Leader of Opposition Pratrapsing Rane said he is willing to take a delegation to the Ministry of Environment and Forests to expedite matters related to mining activities.
Addressing a press conference in his Secretariat office, Rane said ‘something serious needs to be done for the welfare of the mining dependents’.
“The government should coax the MoEF to expedite certain issues. I am willing to go myself with a delegation if the government wants…the ban is hurting the stakeholders who are facing hardships. Even the barge owners are crying. Their barges are rotting,” he stated.
“I think the government should act, take up the matter seriously and bring to the notice of MoEF the sufferings of the small people,” he said.
Rane refused to comment further since the matter is presently in the Supreme Court, but added that certain other portions of the case, could be expedited, provided, the Centre is approached by a local delegation.
