VASCO: Stating that the land leased out to Dev Damodar Trust can be utilised for public purpose, Vasco MLA Carlos Almeida on Tuesday demanded that the State revenue department not renew or extend the lease with Dev Damodar Trust.
He also submitted a memorandum in this regard to Revenue Minister Rohan Khaunte in presence of MMC Chairperson of Deepak Naik and few other MMC Councillors, on Tuesday.
In the memorandum, Almeida mentioned that the Government land admeasuring 3964 square metres in the heart of Vasco town was leased out to “Shri Dev Damodar Charitable Trust” for construction of auditorium and town hall.
“Trust was required to complete the construction of a ‘town hall and auditorium’ on the said land within three years, in default the land was liable to be reverted to the government. Except for construction of a compound wall, no other structure has been erected on the said land in the last 30 years. The lease period is due to expire on December 16 2017 and hence I request that no extension of the lease be granted in this case,” the memorandum states.
In his memorandum, Almeida also pointed out that the public land in question is located in prime locality of Vasco and is the only vacant government property available within the town and can be utilized for greater public purpose for the benefit of the citizens of Vasco and Mormugao taluka in particular and Goa as a whole.
He also mentioned that Vasco Municipality on 27.11.2013 had unanimously resolved to call upon Government to revert the land granted to Shree Dev Damodar Charitable Trust and considering it as public demand government should not to renew or extend the lease period under any circumstances and should ensure that Government resumes possession of the land on expiry of the lease on 16.12.2017, and make it available its utilization for public projects.
