PONDA: Members of Maruti Taxi Association and Dada Vaidya Association at Ponda, which are affiliated to North Goa Tourist Taxi Association, have demanded with the government to act against illegal private taxi owners.
Addressing a news conference, Association President Baban Sawant said the government should show promptness at the earliest in acting against illegal private taxi owners, as their livelihood is affected due to the private taxi owners who is eating into their business by ferrying passengers at low rates.
“It is a great injustice. We are tax payers and we have no customers to ferry due to increasing business of private owners. Each taxi owner pays Rs 20,000 towards tax yearly. The private taxis carry passengers from hotels and companies saying that they are sent by the company to collect their guests and thus create loss to taxi owners,” stated Sawant.
“We have complained giving numbers of at least eight such taxi owners to Ponda RTO. So far, we have got good response,” he added.
