MARGAO: Members of the Benaulim gram sabha were left in the lurch yet again as their proposals and resolutions were not taken up at the gram sabha with Sarpanch Remedios Fernandes citing time as reason for adjournment.
Pointing out that it was already past 1 pm, Fernandes asked that the proposals be taken up in the next gram sabha meeting, though no date was provided. There was an exchange of angry words after the meeting as the next date for the gram sabha meeting was not finalised.
The meeting held last month too was adjourned soon after it began after villagers protested citing that the minutes that were being read by the panchayat secretary were different from those that were distributed to them.
During yesterday’s meeting, however, this correction was rectified with issues regarding garbage, immigrants and illegal constructions being discussed.
A heated argument ensued when member of the gram sabha Jose Rodrigues enquired about the use of a video camera to record proceedings of the meeting. “The video recorder was bought without any quotation,” said the sarpanch when asked of details about the purchase of the video camera. Rodrigues later questioned why he was not allowed to record the meetings despite the practice being followed in the past.
Members of the public were also fuming after many proposals passed during the September meeting last year were not acted upon.
