CANACONA: Taking in its stride the growing public outcry over increasing incidents of traffic indiscipline, Canacona Municipal Council (CMC) has decided to go for strict implementation of parking slots in the commercial hub of Chaudi, as notified by the government in 2013.
Led by Chairperson Simon Rebello, councillors in the meeting on Thursday highlighted growing dissent among the general public of traffic indiscipline and the need to regulate incidents of traffic hazards. All the councillors present supported the call to ask traffic police cell to strictly implement the parking notification, where 23 spots were notified by Collector (South) for parking two and four wheelers, stands for carriage rickshaws, auto rickshaws, tempo/pick-up, pilot motorcycles in commercial town of Chaudi.
Chief Officer Sudhin Natu agreed to strictly implement the parking spots and will accordingly take up the matter with traffic police cell.
Daily wages for contract and daily wage workers have been increased from Rs 221 to Rs 300 with effect from April 1 and about 53 contract workers and 16 daily wage workers will be benefited. Similarly, CMC has raised the daily wages of LDC and motor vehicle drivers from Rs 297 to Rs 350.
CMC has also decided to increase its share of PF contribution by 12% to both categories of daily wage beneficiaries.
With this increase, CMC will have to incur additional financial burden of about Rs 16 lakh annually, raising the expenses on this head from Rs 41.79 lakh to Rs 56.78 lakh annually.
CMC has decided to enact by-laws for various fees structures like trade, waste management, cattle pound, roadside sales, etc, Presently, CMC has bye-laws only for buildings, it was stated.
A special general body meeting will be convened in this regards, which will also be open for public and suggestions, decisions taken will be sent for approval of the government, it was stated.
CMC also decided to go for auction of coconut trees in its properties, where about 22 coconut trees will be given to the auctioneer for its coconut tender or otherwise.
Except for one, most councillors, besides CMC Chairperson Rebello, Deputy Chairperson Champa Pagui, Chief Officer Sudhin Natu, CMC engineer were present for the meeting.
