To maintain batting depth on spin-friendly Sri Lankan pitches, selectors called up right-handed middle-order batter Sarfaraz Khan. Sarfaraz will meet the Indian contingent in Colombo, after which the team will travel to Galle, the venue for the first Test scheduled to begin on August 15.
Sarfaraz brings additional stability to the middle order following consistent run-scoring in domestic competitions and impact performances in prior international Test appearances. His adeptness against spin bowling is expected to be a key tactical asset during the two-match assignment.
