Madeira Wedding Chaos As Fans Mistake Couple For Cristiano Ronaldo And Georgina Rodriguez

Thousands of Cristiano Ronaldo fans gathered outside Madeira’s Funchal Cathedral believing the football star and Georgina Rodriguez were getting married. Instead, they had mistaken local groom Fabio Ramos for Ronaldo, leaving the real bride struggling to make her way through the unexpected crowd.

Chaos unfolded outside Funchal Cathedral in Portugal’s Madeira on Saturday after thousands of football fans gathered believing that Cristiano Ronaldo and his fiancée, Georgina Rodriguez, were getting married at the historic venue.

Instead, the crowd had mistaken a local couple, Fabio Ramos and Fatima Nicole Cunha Teixeira, for the Portuguese football superstar and his partner. The couple, who are originally from Madeira but currently live in France, had to make their way through a huge gathering of excited fans to reach their own wedding ceremony.

The 15th-century Funchal Cathedral became the centre of attention after rumours spread that Ronaldo and Georgina had chosen the venue for their wedding. Fans reportedly arrived in large numbers, with many wearing Ronaldo’s iconic No. 7 Portugal jersey.

The situation became particularly difficult for the bride, Fatima, who had to fight her way through the crowd as she attempted to enter the cathedral. Guests and family members also struggled to reach the venue amid the unexpected gathering.

One wedding guest described the situation as bizarre, questioning why so many people believed Fabio was Ronaldo.

“This is crazy. Why does everyone think Fabio is Cristiano Ronaldo?” the guest said, adding that the bride was upset and worried that the commotion could spoil her special day.

The confusion was fuelled by speculation surrounding Ronaldo and Georgina’s relationship. Ronaldo’s sister, Katia Aveiro, had earlier posted footage of herself arriving in Madeira for what she described as a “party”. Her social media post further encouraged speculation that the football star and Georgina were preparing to get married.

However, there was no Ronaldo wedding taking place at the cathedral.

Marcos Goncalves, the parish priest of Funchal Cathedral, confirmed that the wedding taking place that day was the only ceremony scheduled at the venue.

“This is the only wedding taking place here today. I do not have a booking for Cristiano Ronaldo,” he said.

The bizarre mix-up eventually reached Ronaldo himself. The footballer reacted to a viral social media post about the incident by sharing laughing emojis, appearing to find the confusion amusing.

Ronaldo and Georgina have been engaged since last year and have continued to attract intense public attention over their plans to marry. The Portuguese star has previously indicated that the couple would get married after the 2026 World Cup.

For Fabio and Fatima, however, their wedding day unexpectedly became a spectacle of its own. Instead of celebrating quietly with family and friends, the couple found themselves at the centre of a crowd gathered in anticipation of one of the world’s most famous footballers.

The incident offered an unusual glimpse into Ronaldo’s immense popularity in Madeira, where he was born and remains a hugely celebrated figure.
