The butterfly garden located in front of the Curchorem-Cacora Municipal Council has allegedly become a breeding ground for mosquitoes, raising concerns over the risk of dengue and malaria in the area.
Mosquito larvae were reportedly found in water stored in a tank inside the garden. Stagnant and foul-smelling water was also noticed in the carrier of a municipal council truck parked on the premises, further raising concerns about potential mosquito breeding spots.

The issue has assumed significance amid a reported rise in dengue cases in the area. Residents have expressed particular concern over the proximity of the garden to a children’s play area, which is frequently used by youngsters.
Goa Forward Party joint secretary Dattaraj Dessai has taken up the matter and initiated a cleaning drive at the site. The effort is aimed at clearing stagnant water and eliminating potential mosquito breeding grounds.
The condition of the garden has also raised questions over the need for regular maintenance and monitoring of public spaces, particularly during the monsoon when stagnant water can create favourable conditions for mosquito breeding.
