A delegation of the Dhangar community, led by former Goa Deputy Chief Minister Chandrakant (Babu) Kavlekar, has urged the government to expedite its long-pending demand for Scheduled Tribe (ST) status.
The community representatives met Goa BJP president Damu Naik and requested him to lead a delegation to the Centre to pursue the demand and seek an early resolution.

The delegation emphasised the need for the government to take up the matter with the Union authorities and expedite the process of granting ST status to the Dhangar community.
The community has been seeking recognition under the Scheduled Tribe category, which it says would provide greater access to constitutional safeguards and benefits associated with ST status.
