Karnataka Minister Priyank Kharge has urged the Centre to strengthen the mechanisms for resolving inter-state river disputes, stressing that water-sharing conflicts extend beyond the Cauvery, Krishna and Mhadei rivers.
Kharge called for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s intervention to address recurring disputes between states over the sharing and management of river waters.

He said the issue requires a broader and more effective mechanism to ensure that inter-state water disputes are resolved in a timely manner and do not continue to escalate between neighbouring states.
Kharge’s remarks come amid longstanding disagreements among states over river water sharing, including disputes involving the Cauvery, Krishna and Mhadei.
He urged the Union government to take a proactive approach and strengthen the existing framework for resolving such disputes in the larger interest of all states dependent on shared river systems.
