MARGAO: Deadlock over the Congress candidate for South Goa is likely to be resolved on Tuesday with the Congress Parliamentary Committee scheduled to meet tomorrow, even as the Reginaldo Lourenco camp appeared upbeat and was seen bracing up for the battle ahead.
While sitting MP Francisco Sardinha’s son Shallom maintained that they have received no indication from the Congress leadership in Delhi till date, the Reginaldo camp was seen establishing contacts with party leaders and workers down south on Monday.
Sources closed to the Reginaldo camp informed that the Curtorim MLA received positive signal from Delhi on Sunday evening itself, but was waiting for the official communication to launch a full-scale campaign in the constituency.
On the other hand Sardinha was not available on phone while his son Shallom said the sitting MP has received no communication from the Centre till date. “We have not received any communication from the party leadership in Delhi so far. No positive signals have been received till date”, Shallom told Herald. On the other hand, former PWD Minister, Churchill Alemao, who has been camping in Delhi along with daughter Valanka, since the last two days, said the Congress Parliamentary Board is likely to meet on Tuesday morning to decide on the candidate for South Goa. Though he was hopeful that Valanka’s candidature will find favour with the party leadership on merit, Churchill, however, is keeping his fingers crossed.
The Reginaldo camp, however, was seen making preparations for the battle ahead having received some positive signals last night. His camp has started establishing contacts with various leaders and party workers from South Goa in a bid to galvanise them for the April 12 poll and is expected to launch a full-fledged campaign after the formal declaration of the party candidate on Tuesday.
