AGENCIES, NEW DELHI: Geno Pharmaceutical brand ambassadors Ameya Audi (2217) and Fide Master Nitish Belurkar (2283) inched closer to the top three finishes at the end of 6th round of the ongoing Commonwealth Chess Championship 2017 in the U-18 and U-16 open categories respectively, held at Leela Ambience Convention Hotel, New Delhi, on Sunday.
Ameya scored a facile win over S Adithya (2073) to finish with 4.5 points while Nitish had a exciting draw with Harikrishna A Ra (2272) in U-16 category.
Goa’s Ameya now climbed to second spot behind leader S Jayakumar who is currently on 5.5 points.
In the U-16 category, Vatsal Singhania is leading the chart with 5.5 points while Goa’s Nitish is on 4.5 points tied along with four others. All four are in contention for the silver and bronze medal wherein their fate will be decided in the final round on Monday.
Ameya will battle out against Y Grahesh while Nitish will face Vatsal Singhania in the final round.
