Vasco: Residents has voiced urgent concerns over a fuel pipeline leak in the area, demanding the immediate removal of the pipelines and the closure of the oil storage facility. The call for action comes after panchayat member Neelam Naik had previously filed a police complaint, warning of potential environmental contamination, a prediction that has unfortunately come true.
Naik expressed distress over the leaked fuel contaminating streams and posing a threat to the Zuari River’s ecosystem, particularly endangering rare window pane oysters. Despite efforts by oil tanking companies to clear the film on the water using a sponge, Naik raised apprehensions about the sustainability of the cleanup process, especially during nighttime when thick vegetation and snake-infested areas could impede the efforts.
