White granules seized

Bicholim police on Tuesday seized about 1 kg of abandoned white granules, a key ingredient in local explosives, from the banks of Bicholim River at Vathadev-Bicholim.
Acting on the tip-off provided by Bicholim Animal Rescue Squad President Amrut Singh, police rushed to the site and seized the white granules, which were packed in a syrup bottle with a cotton flame to it.
Police informed that one matchstick and few sticks of agarbattis were also found near the site. On inspecting the water, police found some species of dead fish and suspect that the granules were used in explosives to kill fish.
Police have registered an offense against unknown culprits and seized the material, which will be sent for testing on Wednesday, informed Investigation Officer D B Naik.
