PANJIM: The students of Goa College of Architecture, Altinho boycotted their classes on Monday and staged a protest outside the college premises over non-allotment of Council of Architecture (CoA) enrolment numbers to several students.
The protesting students said that registration and enrolement numbers have not been allotted to some students, who are in their final year. The enrolment numbers are important for students as they are required for their registration as an architect with the CoA once they complete their degree.

According to the students, the CoA has been conducting inspection of the college periodically and making recommendations to improve deficiencies so as to increase the intake capacity from 40 to 50 students every academic year. In July this year, the CoA had deputed a team of three experts, who went through paper work and again gave its approval for intake of 40 students only.
The students further stated from 2019-2020, the State government increased the students quota from 40 to 50 by granting 10 seats to students belonging to economically weaker sections (EWS). But the government never approached the CoA to increase the intake capacity. The Goa College of Architecture has not applied with the CoA to increase the students’ quota for the last five years.
The students were in a rude shock when they found that the CoA had not granted them enrolment number. They said that 35 out of 50 students admitted in 2019-20 were not granted enrolment numbers. Also during last four years, no student has been issued markesheets, they said, adding that their degree will have no meaning if there is no registration and no allotment of enrolment number by the CoA.
