SANGUEM: The rasta roko by Sanguemkarancho Ekvott to demand immediate commencement of the construction work of parallel bridge at Bendwada, Sanguem passed off peacefully following GSIDC official Joshi’s assurance to the agitators that the work would commence by end of January 2021.

Incidentally, even before the agitators could make their presence felt at the venue of agitation, Joshi made his presence felt at the spot and urged the agitators not to resort to rasta roko but instead discuss the issue by gathering by the side of the bridge to which the agitators agreed.
During the course of discussions, Joshi assured that the work of the bridge will be started by end of January 2021. The agitators however did not agree with the oral assurance from Joshi but demanded that the same be given in writing.
However, when Joshi denied putting the assurance in writing there was uproar among the protestors at which point of time SMC former chairperson Romualdo Fernandes called on PWD Minister Deepak Pauskar, who assured Fernandes that he would follow up the matter personally and would get the work resumed by January 31 as assured by Joshi.
The assurance was also confirmed by Deputy Chief Minister Chandrakant Kavlekar who called on Sanguem Mamlatdar Manoj Korgaonkar to pass on the message to the people.
When Korgaonkar passed on the message to the people, the agitators heaved dispersed but cautioned that they would lead a bigger agitation if the work is not resumed by January end.
Sanguemkarancho Ekvott president Meshu da Costa warned the officials and the government at large that the people from Sanguem would not hesitate even to block the Cortalim Bridge if the work of Bendwada Bridge is not resumed.
Bhati sarpanch Uday Naik, panchas of Uguem Marcus Pereira, Sanjay Parwar, Michael Fernandes, Mithil Dessai, Romualdo Fernandes, Dilesh Sambhari and others questioned the authorities over the contractors playing with the bridge project work.
A large force of policemen from Quepem and Sanguem Police Stations were deputed to prevent any untoward incident. Deputy Collector Ajay Gaude, PI Sanguem Sachin Pavelkar, Quepem PI Pednekar and Mamlatdar Sanguem Manoj Korgaonkar were present.
to avoid any law and order issue.
