MARGAO: The Additional Director of Panchayats has disposed of the appeal filed by a builder with directions that he should approach the Majorda-Utorda-Calata Panchayat within a period of one week from the passing of the order.
Sarpanch Moises Vaz said the builder has approached the Panchayat with the construction file, adding that the file will be placed before the body meeting for an appropriate decision.

While disposing of the appeal, the Additional Panchayat Director had also directed the panchayat to reconsider the construction file in its proper perspective in terms of law and decide the same afresh, with further direction to communicate the decision to the builder within four weeks from the date of submission of the file by the builder.
The order further stated that the panchayat will be free to adopt a fresh resolution superceding the resolution dated January 31, 2013, adding that the provisions of section 56 of the Act will not be attracted.
The construction project mooted by the builder had stirred up a hornet’s nest in the village with villagers opposing the construction tooth and nail. The project had come in for severe criticism at the gram sabha meetings.
