PANJIM: In a late night development on Tuesday, the
Confirming the issuing of suspension order, Chief Secretary Sanjay Srivastava said that initially government wanted to revoke the suspension and just transfer him but Election Commission of India pressed for his suspension.
“Suspension order was issued on Tuesday late night after EC turned down our proposal to revoke it,” he informed.
Naik, who was earlier, transferred from the post after he violated the code of conduct, was asked to be suspended by the Commission along with his office head clerk Janu Kunkolikar.
However, Srivastava through a letter to EC requested to reconsider the recommendation to suspend Naik.
Naik has been accused of offering 140 job letters through his department violating election the code of conduct. The investigation conducted by secretary V P Rao, following Chief Electoral Officer’s directions, had found Naik guilty.
