MARGAO: More than 70 residents of Colva marched to Colva Police Station on Tuesday demanding justice to a 70-year-old man who was knocked down by a two-wheeler on the main road in Colva on Sunday.
Antonio Rodrigues who was killed in the accident was attempting to cross the road when the two-wheeler proceeding towards Margao knocked him down. People objected to the slow progress of the police in nabbing the two-wheeler rider.
Police have been urged that the rider be arrested and have refused to take the body of the deceased.
“Three days on, not even one accused has been charged nor has an FIR been filed. We have urged the police to lawfully take the accused riders in custody and check their blood samples for alcohol use on the night the accident happened,” said local panch Menino Fernandes.
The people also highlighted that the riders were not wearing helmets.
The Colva Police Inspector has assured that he will take all necessary steps to bring the persons to book as soon as possible.
Rodrigues was taken to Hospicio on the night of the accident and was declared dead later.
