PANJIM: Goa Governor P S Sreedharan Pillai has convened the new Assembly on Tuesday March 15 to administer the oath to newly elected Members of the Legislative Assembly. He has also appointed Ganesh Gaonkar as protem Speaker, who will be administered the oath as MLA today.
“Hon’ble Governor has now ordered convening of the new Assembly on March 15, 2022 at 11:30am for the purpose of administering the Oath or Affirmation to the newly elected members. In this regard, under Article 188 of the Constitution of India, Hon’ble Governor has appointed Ganesh Gaonkar to be the person before whom Members of Goa Legislative Assembly shall make and subscribe the Oath or Affirmation on March 15, 2022. Gaonkar will be administered the Oath of MLA by Hon’ble Governor on March 14, 2022 at 11:30am at Raj Bhavan,” reads a press release issued by Secretary to Governor R Mihir Vardhan.
The Governor on Saturday dissolved the Assembly with immediate effect, paving way for the formation of a new government in the State. The term of the present Goa Legislative Assembly ends on March 15, 2022.
Acting Chief Minister Pramod Sawant earlier met the Governor and submitted his resignation to him. The Governor while accepting his resignation nominated him as caretaker Chief Minister till the new government is formed in the State.
BJP swept to victory with 20 seats while Congress got 11 seats, AAP 2 and RGP 1 besides others. MGP that got two seats and three Independents have extended their support BJP even as many BJP supporters are opposing to MGP’s entry into the new government formation.
