41,150 cases pending before Goa courts

PANJIM: As many as 41,150 cases are pending in the district and subordinate courts in the State of which the majority are civil ones.

According to National Judicial Data Grid (NJDG) North Goa district has double the number of pending cases than of South Goa. 

According to the data, 27,540 cases are pending before the courts in North Goa, while 13,610 cases are pending in South Goa courts. 

Of these, 1773 civil and 1745 criminal cases are pending for more than ten years; 3910 cases are pending for 5-10 years in both the districts, while 11,509 cases are pending for 2-5 years; and 23,855 cases are less than two years old. 

Further, of the total pending cases, 3355 were field by senior citizens and 5949 cases were filed by women. 

Last month, North Goa courts disposed of 3347 cases while South Goa courts disposed of 1518 cases. A total of 1806 cases were filed in North Goa, while 1274 cases were filed in South Goa courts last month.
