5 EVMs malfunction in Mandrem; voting passes off peacefully

PERNEM:  Voting in Mandrem for the Lok Sabha and by-polls concluded peacefully.

A large number of voters turned out during the first half of the day.

The enthusiasm of the first time voters was evident as most of them cast their votes within two hours of the commencement of polling. By midday, 46.26 percent of the voters exercised their franchise. 

However, voting had to be stopped at five polling booths due to malfunctioning of EVMs. They are: Booth No 28, Govt Primary school, Mardiwada, Morjim; Booth No 44, Govt Primary school, Bandarwada, Tuem; Booth No 17, Govt Primary School, Dandoswada, Mandrem; and Booth No 9 and 10, Our Lady Of Mount Carmel High School, Madhalawada, Arambol.

Voters had to wait for an hour at booth No 44 and 17 for the replacement of machines; while the problem in booths 9, 10 and No 28 was resolved within 15 minutes.
