50% of panchayat ghars renovated

By next year GSIDC to complete renovation of all government schools

PANJIM: Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC) has completed reconstruction and renovation of more than half the panchayat buildings across the State. The Corporation also intends to complete renovation of all government schools by next year.

Confirming this, GSIDC chairman Deepak Pawaskar said, “We had conducted a survey of the panchayat buildings and accordingly we have started the process of reconstruction and renovation,” he said. 

Pawaskar said that wherever required, depending on availability of land, new panchayat buildings will be constructed. “The project is funded by Directorate of Panchayat. They pay Rs 3 crore for each panchayat. High tech facilities will be provided to the panchayat ghar,” he said. 

He said that GSIDC is projected to spend Rs 15-18 crore on repairs of government schools across all the talukas.

GSIDC takes up repair works of the government schools as per the recommendation of Education Department. This year, the department identified 50 government primary schools, which have fallen into disrepair. “Since 2013, till date, we have completed renovation of 70 percent of the government schools in the State. By next year, we intend to cover all the schools,” Pawaskar said.
