VASCO: Four councilors filed nine nominations for the vacant post of Mormugao Municipal Council Chairperson, on Tuesday. The election for the chairperson will be held on Wednesday. 

The councilors who have filed nominations are Kritesh Gaonkar (six) and one each by Fredrick Henriques, Nandadeep Raut and Nilesh Navelkar. The election process would begin at 11 am on Wednesday and will be presided over by Margao Municipal Council Chief Officer Siddhivinayak Naik. 

After filing his nominations, Gaonkar claimed that he has the support of 13 councillors. “I am contesting the election, as I think we need stability here. For the last three years, there has been no development here and I plan to speed it up now,” Gaonkar said.

Nanoskar was voted out as chairperson last week. She occupied the chair for a little over two months.
